Jonathan "Hennessee from Tennessee" Pinegar joined a field of 32 at Billy Mack's Grill and Billiards in a May 7-8, $2,000-added event on the Q City 9-Ball Tour. Pinegar went undefeated to claim the title, facing Russ Edwards twice to complete his run.
They met first in the hot seat match. Pinegar, playing at the top of the handicapped field, had downed Clint Mullins 12-4, while Edwards, playing near the top, had survived a double hill match versus Ryan Hollinsworth (10-7). Pinegar claimed the hot seat 12-8 and waited for Edwards to come back from the semifinals.
On the loss side, Mullins picked up Dave Jones, who'd defeated Bobby Hulk, and in the event's first money round, venue owner, Billy Mack, both 6-2. Hollinsworth drew Ryan Dunn, who'd eliminated Cody Myers 8-4 and Taz Holliday 8-2.
Jones advanced to the quarterfinals 6-4 over Mullins, and was joined by Hollinsworth, who'd ended Dunn's weekend 8-6. Hollinsworth earned himself a re-match against Edwards with an 8-2 quarterfinal victory over Jones.
Edwards defeated Hollinsworth a second time 10-3 to earn his own re-match against Pinegar in the hot seat. Though Edwards would chalk up one more rack against Pinegar than he had in the hot seat match, and force a case game, Pinegar prevailed to claim the event title.
Tour director Herman Parker thanked room owners Billy Mack and Dennie Pack for their hospitality, as well as sponsors Viking Cues and Delta-13 Racks. The next stop on the Q City 9-Ball Tour, scheduled for May 14-15, will be hosted by Bucks Billiards, Raleigh, NC.
