Twenty-one ladies came out to face more than the hot weather at the eighth stop on the Fast Eddie's Olhausen 9 Ball Tour sponsored by Ray Schuler Custom Cues in Houston on Sunday, August 13th. The point race for the 2006 Lady Player of the Year is still up for grabs so these ladies came to do battle.
Top picks were Heather Lloyd, Amanda Lampert, Kyu Yi, Kim Pierce, Jennifer Kraber and Belinda Lee. Also, the Tour would like to welcome the two new members, Michelle Yim and Carrie Shannon.
The 5-6th positions went to Erin Cano of McAllen and Anne Mayes. It's good to see Erin back on the tournament trail after having her first child.
Fourth place went to Kyu Yi of San Antonio. Kyu had won our last two events in San Antonio and Austin. She lost her opening round match with Anne Mayes, hill-hill, but went on with victories in the brutal bracket over her best friend, Audra Carter, Belinda Lee and Erin Cano before being derailed for her third straight title by Kim Pierce.
Kim Pierce of Bastrop jumped into the third place spot with consistent play. Kim won her first two matches over Courtney Peters and Jillian Valles before being sent to the left side by Anne Mayes. She, then, went to work with wins over Shayla Neris, Courtney Peters, Anne Mayes and Kyu Yi before succumbing to Amanda Lampert in the finals of the one loss side. A great finish for a nice lady!
Amanda Lampert of Dallas, the Tour's current ladies point leader, got to work with triumphs over Belinda Lee, Jennifer Kraber, and Anne Mayes to reach the finals of the winner's bracket where she met up with Heather Lloyd. These two ladies have met so many times in a battle for the hot seat over the Tour's history, we have lost count. On this day, Heather prevailed by a score of 7-4. Amanda went on to defeat Kim Pierce in the finals of the one loss side to reach a seat in the final match against Heather.
Heather Lloyd, multiple Tour event winner, of Austin in her quest for another Tour title did just one thing, she dominated the field. Heather earned the hot seat with victories over Helen Hayes, 7-1, Annie Doyle, 7-1, Erin Cano, 7-2, and Amanda, 7-4. This young lady catches a gear and it's almost impossible to slow her down.
With Amanda coming off the one loss side, this set up an exciting final match with Heather. Heather hung on to that gear and came out on top by a score of 7-3. Congratulations to both of these fine competitors!
A great big thanks to Fast Eddie's Billiards, Big Lew, Darren, Rich and Tasha, and your staff for hosting a great event! Fast Eddie's is always on the move with new locations now open in Amarillo and Lafayette, La. Be sure to check them out if you're ever in the area. Thanks to Olhausen Billiards and Ray Schuler Custom Cues for being there. You are the cornerstones of the Tour and it just wouldn't happen without you!
Also, thanks to "Gunslinger" Ron Geyer, the best cue repairman in the business and to Jack Kompan of Mystick Cues with his new purpleheart shaft dedicated break cue. The balls run for the pockets just to get away from this monster and if you haven't tried one, you will be greatly surprised by the performance and cost. Thanks to Royce Bunnell of OB-1 Cue Shafts. What can you say as this shaft continues to take the billiard industry by storm! Also, if you are ever in the San Antonio area, go by and see Tino Lopez with Teodora's Mini-tacos and try their enchilada plate. Put the plate on top of your head and your tongue will beat your brains out trying to get to them! A special thanks to all of the players and spectators who survived the heat and supported this event!
See y'all next month in Beaumont on September 16-17. Until then, keep knockin' the backs out of those pockets!
