Thirty six players made it to Sunset Family Billiards in Renton, WA this weekend for the Northwest Women's Pool Association event. This event was originally scheduled for Q Street Billiards in Springfield OR, but Q Street closed their doors leaving the tour without a venue to play in. Up stepped Sean Finney, from Sunset Family Billiards, to the rescue. He agreed to have to the event in his room and put up $750 in added money for the prize fund.
This event went a little different than the last few NWPA tour stops. Hsin Huang, who has completely dominated the tour winning the last four stops, dropped her second round match to Mary Hopkin from Richland, WA. Huang would make her way through the one-loss side on Saturday to qualify for play on Sunday, but Morgan Steinman from Darby Montana put an end to Huang's tournament winning streak on Sunday morning.
While all of this was going on, Martha Hartsell was quietly making her way undefeated through the field. Hartell took the hot-seat on Sunday with a 7-5 win over Mary Olson. Olson would then fall to Regine Springett from Langley British Columbia on the one-loss side to set up the final match between Springett and Hartsell.
The final match was close and both ladies put on a great show for the crowd, but in the end it was Hartsell scoring the hill-hill victory for her first tour stop win this year.
Hartsell won $580 for first, while Springett pocketed $360 for second. Olson and Steinman filled out the top four spots.
The next event on the NWPA schedule is the season finale at The Breaking Point in Lynnwood, WA. This will be a $2250 added event.
