However the ‘split’ turned out, David “Bo” Hartman doubled his (recorded) previous earnings at the tables. He entered the AZBilliards database with a 4th place finish at a stop on the PremierBilliards.com’s Q City 9-Ball Tour this past December. Hartman returned to the same location – The Big Orange Social in Knoxville, TN – this past weekend (Sat., May 18) and went undefeated to the hot seat. Later, at the conclusion of the semifinals, he and Daniel Richardson, whom he’d defeated in the hot seat match, agreed to a split of the top two prizes. The $250-added event drew 25 entrants to The Big Orange Social.
Hartman opened with a 6-2 victory over Todd Kihnley and won every match after that by the same 6-4 score, two of which went double hill. After Kihnley, Hartman downed Kaleb Bales (double hill) and David Givens to draw Malorie Zastrow in one of the winners’ side semifinals. Richardson, after an opening-round bye, shut out Tommy Chappell and defeated Mike Gann 5-4 (Gann racing to 9) to draw Timmy Dasey in the other winners’ side semifinal.
Richardson fought and won a double-hill fight versus Dasey, while Hartman won his third 6-4 battle, against Zastrow. Hartman/Richardson battled to double hill for possession of the hot seat with Hartman winning his fourth, and as it turned out, last 6-4 match.
Dasey and Zastrow moved west on the bracket and picked up two competitors who’d lost their winners’ side quarterfinal match. Dasey ended up with Rick Rogers, who’d followed his loss to Zastrow with wins over Todd Kihnley 6-3 and David Givens, double hill. Zastrow drew a rematch against Kelly Green, who’d followed the loss with victories over Rich Ferguson 7-1 and Scott Largen 7-2.
Green won the rematch against Zastrow 7-4 and in the quarterfinals, faced Dasey, who’d eliminated Rogers 6-3. With Green continuing to race to 7, Dasey won a double-hill battle 5-6 that advanced him to the semifinals.
In what proved to be the final match of the event, Dasey and Richardson battled to double hill in those semifinals, before Richardson earned a second (possibly, third) shot against Hartman in the finals. Negotiations got underway and the split was arranged, with Hartman claiming the official event title.
