The 2012-2013 Pure X Cues All American Tour – presented by the American CueSports Alliance (ACS) – returned for its fourteenth stop of the Tour season to 2nd Avenue Corner Pocket in Cedar Rapids, IA, Saturday, December 29. The $500-added 9-ball handicapped tourney on 7-foot Valley bar boxes drew 30 players.
On the A-side semifinals, Greg Scheffert (Cedar Rapids, IA) [rated a “6” on a regional handicapped system used] outlasted Lee Styer [6] (Cedar Rapids, IA), while Scott Hargens [7] (Cedar Rapids, IA) upended Jason Robison (Cedar Rapids, IA). Scheffert then took the hot seat with a victory over Hargens. On the B-side John Gorsch Sr. [6] (Cedar Rapids, IA) and Randy Tenley [6] (Galesburg, IA] were subjugated to a tie for 7th place at the hands of Lenny Lewin [5] (Earlville, IA) and Cale Enabnit [6] (Ryan, IA) respectively. In the next round, Lewin and Enabnit eliminated Lee Styer and Jason Robison at 5th place respectively. Enabnit then ended Lewin’s run at 4th place, but Cale was subsequently ousted at 3rd place by Scott Hargens. The tourney finals took one set, as Greg Scheffert slipped by Hargens on the hill 6-6 for the title!
By virtue of Greg Scheffert also being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, he qualified for a free 9-Ball singles entry into the 2013 Pure X ACS Nationals at the Tropicana Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS.
