The Great Southern Billiard Tour stopped into Weekends Pub in Goose Creek, South Carolina, for The Charleston Classic with a $1500 added nine-ball event the weekend of July 28-29, 2007. Among the talented field of forty-five entrants were tour players Josh Roberts, Greg Dix, and seventeen year old Jared McGee (who was runner-up to Johnny Archer in The Hurricane Open).
Day one of the event came to a close with sixteen remaining players. Matches were as follows:
Winners side:
Shannon Daulton / John Stallings
Greg Dix / Tommy Chavis
Paul Dergon / Jared Mcgee
Wendell Thompkins / Josh Roberts
One-loss side:
Glen Smith / Paul Smith
Jason Kelsey / Marty O
Cliff Crib / JR Rossman
Chris McCastey / Mike Basha
No one expected Sunday to be full of surprises but it definitely ended that way. Tour Director Shannon Daulton beat John Stallings only to be sent to the one-loss side by Greg Dix with a score of 9-0. Another local player, Wendell Thompkins, played well beating Josh Roberts and hometown favorite Jared McGee, before meeting up with Greg Dix. The 9-5 score sent Thompkins to the one-loss side. Meanwhile, on the one-loss side Josh Roberts bested Shannon Daulton, Jared McGee and set up a re-match between he and Thompkins. Again, Thompkins prevailed and the finals was set with Greg Dix. Greg Dix played a superb set against Wendell Thompkins which ended with a final score of 9-0.
Weekend Pub hosted a great event in Goose Creek, South Carolina. We would like to thank Bruce and Shelby Bates (league operators for the Charleston APA) for all of their help in making these tour stops successful.
You can catch up with The Great Southern Billiard Tour at the next stop in Macon Georgia at The Hole Thang the weekend of August 18-19, 2007.
