The Jacoby Cues Great Lakes Tour drew a field of hopefuls to Palace Billiards in Villa Park, IL this weekend for a WPBA qualifier for the Cuetec Cues Southeast Classic in June.
Gail Grecar went undefeated to win the event, but she was able to do it against one less opponent than she expected. Grecar took the hot-seat with a tight 7-6 win over Renee Campagna.
Since Grecar already had a spot in the WPBA event, the qualifier would go to the winner between Campagna and Dawn Fox in the semi-finals. Both players were feeling the nerves and it showed in the match. This match also came down to hill-hill before Campagna won the case game to earn the qualifier and the rematch with Grecar in the finals.
Campagna would have to settle for the qualifier, as Grecar won the final match 9-6 to earn first place in the tournament.
Grecar earned $400 for first, while Campagna pocketed $275 plus the qualifier. Dawn Fox finished in third place and Julie Melman finished in fourth but could end up being the biggest winner of the day as she got the call this weekend that she was to fly to California for a taping of Ballbreakers on the Game Show Network. Melman was undefeated going into Sunday play but had to forfeit her matches so that she could get on the plane to head to California.
The Great Lakes Tour will be at the Billiard Cafe in Battle Creek, MI on April 23rd - 24th for their next event.
