Day one at the 2003 Glass City Open is complete with one round of play complete.
Most of the top seeds received byes into the second round, but round ones did see some marquee matches. Canadian favorite Ed Galati dropped a 10-7 match to John Schmidt and Dee Adkins lost 10-8 to John Brumback.
Alice Rim, one of the two females in the field, won her first match 10-6 against Randy Stuart. Alice jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match, but saw that lead slip away as Stuart tied the match at 6-6. From there, Rim won the next 4 games for the 10-6 victory. "I enjoy competing against the men", Rim commented after the match. "When they start to shine at the table, I tend to shine too". Rim will face Ryan McCreesh in the second round on Thursday.
