The Las Vegas Cue Club Snooker Classic, Event 3 on the 2011 United States Snooker Association (USSA) Tour, sponsored by Aramith Billiard Balls and Strachan West Of England snooker cloth, has been won by Joe Girdpool competing in his first USSA Tour event.
Girdpool is the owner of the newly established 4 Kaz Snooker Club & Bar in Las Vegas which will host a USSA Tour event next month.
The Tour event was played on the Cue Club's Riley snooker tables with the participants divided in the two groups, with the top two players from each group advancing into the semifinals.
The winner of Group 1 was the Las Vegas Cue Club owner himself, Henry Nogiec, who is a very accomplished snooker player having learnt how to play the game back in his native Canada, with the runner-up position going to Girdpool.
The winner of Group 2 was Chris Sheerin with the second qualifying place taken by Dennis Trujillo.
The semifinals, played over the best-of-seven frames, saw Trujillo emerge with a 4-2 victory over Nogiec, and Girdpool defeat Sheerin 4-1.
The final presented some grinding snooker from both competitors with very little break building on display, as both seemed content to be cautious in their approach and let safety play rule the match.
In the end this mode of play proved to be a perfect scenario for Girdpool as he blanked Trujillo 4-0.
The USSA would like to offer its thanks to Henry Nogiec, the owner of the Las Vegas Cue Club, to Jim Wych for organizing the event, and to all the participants for their kind support towards this new event on the USSA Tour.
The USSA Tour now moves back to New York City and to the Top 147 Snooker Club in Brooklyn which takes place over the weekend of April 9 & 10.
