George “Ginky” Sansouci got sent to the one-loss side, but returned to take first place in the East Coast Pool Tour's fifth annual Larry Lisciotti Memorial tournament on the weekend of February 27-28. The $500-added event drew 47 entrants to Branford Cue and Brew in Branford, CT.
Fresh off a win on the Predator 9-Ball Tour in late January, Sansouci was favored to win from the opening smack of the balls. He advanced to the winners' side final four where he ran into Sal Midolo, on his way to the hot seat. Midolo sent him west and then turned to face Kevin Cahill. Cahill had sent Jim Disenza to the one-loss side 6-4 and then followed him over, when Midolo gained the hot seat with a decisive 7-1 win.
Ginky started his three-match march back to the finals with a 7-2 win over Rob Piersa, who'd gotten by Bill Santiago 7-4 and Tom Seminaro, Jr. 7-5. Disenza faced Fred Buzzell, who'd defeated Rick Samiglepti 5-1 and Lou Ferrara 6-2 to get to him. Ginky dropped Disenza into fourth place with a 7-2 win and then shutout Cahill in the semifinals, opening that match with a four-pack.
The Sansouci and Midolo re-match didn't happen. Though Sansouci was awarded first place points, the two chose to split the $2,225 dollars at stake.
