Gil Hernandez wins Illinois Viking Tour Stop

This weekend the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour was in River Grove, IL at Chris's Cue Phoria Billiards !

56 players turned out to play for over $4000 in prize money.
In the Open division we saw Gil Hernandez defeat Sergio Perez for the hot seat match 9-7 !

To get to the hot seat match Gil defeated Jon Kucharo 9-4, Tommy Hernandez 9-8, Santos Sambajon Jr. 9-4, and Sergio Perez 9-7 !

Meanwhile on the One Loss side we saw some great matches like Andy Friedhofen over Adam Maloney 7-5 (5th Place)

Shawn Putnam over Santos Sambajon Jr. 7-2 (5th Place)

Shawn Putnam over Andy Friedhofen 7-1 (4th Place)

And Sergio Perez defeated Shawn Putnam 7-2 (3rd Place) to get another shot at Gil Hernandez in the finals !

Sergio punished Gil 9-6 in the first set of the true double elimination format Which set up a race to 7 for the title !

The fans were not disappointed as the second set went hill-hill and Sergio fouled leaving Gil a 2-9 combo for the win ! GIL MISSED THE COMBO ! He could have easily ran out the table but elected to shoot the combo and missed ! Sergio played safe on the 2-ball and Gil jumped the 8-ball and slopped the 2-ball in off a jump/bank/carom off the 8-ball in which he then proceeded to run out for the win !
