Georgia on my “Nine”

Belinda Calhoun, Lisa Cossette and Kathleen Lawless
Tiger SMART staged their second tour stop at Rack and Grill II in Augusta, GA, July 12 and 13, 2014.  Owner, Chris Kuneman, was a very gracious host and turned his immaculate room over to Tiger SMART members.  Special mention should go to local Augustan, Carolyn Newsome, for local promotion and public relations including setting up coverage by WRDW.  Thank you, Carolyn.

Although the field was limited due to date conflicts and miscommunication to local APA members, there was no shortage of talent.  The pristine Gold Crowns allowed players to display their best games.

Round one saw Lawless advance over local player Diana Colgrove 7-3; Belinda Calhoun over Carolyn Newsome and Marianne Merrill 7-1 - 7-4; Wendy Kinzer over Cheryl Pritchard 7-4; and Lisa Cossette over new member Pam Shivers 7-3.

Continuing in the winner’s bracket, Calhoun bested Kathleen Lawless 7-3 and Cossette handed Wendy Kinzer her first defeat in a hill-hill thriller 7-6 setting up the winner’s bracket final between Calhoun and Cossette.

In the one loss bracket, Cheryl Pritchard started her trek west with wins over Carolyn Newsome and Pam Shivers 9-3; 9-2 before being upended by Lawless 7-3.  Merrill also won two matches over Diana Colgrove and Wendy Kinzer by identical scores of 7-4 before being eliminated by Savannah’s own, Kathleen Lawless leaving Marianne in 4th place.  Congratulations to Cheryl Pritchard and Wendy Kinzer for finishing in 5th-6th place.

Calhoun won the hot seat match against Lisa 7-3.  Cossette and Lawless would match up to see who would face Belinda in the final.  Cossette dominated the match 7-2 leaving Lawless with a nice 3rd place finish.  It wasn’t to be so in the final as Calhoun had a flashback and displayed exquisite cueing skills for the win over Lisa 9-2.

Tiger SMART would like to thank its’ sponsors Tiger Products, Ozone Billiards, Aramith, Quick-Clean, and Simonis for their continued support and for helping to make the WPBA Tiger Southern Mid-Atlantic Regional Tour a success.
