Sunday results are in from the Generationpool.com Ladies event, and the winners side is now down to just eight players.
Possibly the biggest surprise on the winners side Sunday night, was Anna Kostanian's 9-5 win over Shin-Mei Liu. Kostanian's event got off to a slow start with a hill-hill win over Katie Cowan. That win was followed up by a 9-4 win over Hazel Cook and then the win over Liu. Kostanian will face Karen Corr in round four, while Liu falls to the left side of the board and will face Melissa Little.
Other players remaining undefeated Sunday night were Allison Fisher, Helena Thornfeldt, Kelly Fisher, Gerda Hofstatter, Xiao-Ting Pan and Ga-Young Kim. Pan will face Kim later today.
Meanwhile, the 32 player men's division brackets were drawn and play gets underway today. There was one late change to the roster for this event as Jose Parica pulled out at the last minute and was replaced by Kim Davenport.
With such a small number of players in the field, there are many marquee matches already in the first round including Tony Crosby vs Kim Davenport, Corey Deuel vs Charlie Bryant, Ralf Souquet vs Shawn Putnam, Rodney Morris vs Charlie Williams and Thorsten Hohmann vs Gabe Owen. Ronnie Wiseman has already advanced with a forfeit win over Lee Chenman who had travel problems and could not make it to venue for his first round match.
Complete brackets for both events are online.
