The Billiard Club of Louisville welcomed The Jacoby Cues Great Lakes Tour on October 7th & 8th for the second stop of the 06-07 season. The room, which is in its second year of operation, has become a key attraction for all levels of billiard enthusiast. From the league player to the road player, they all find their way to this terrific room for the quality billiard equipment as well as the great food and bar service.
Twenty-nine players gathered on Saturday to compete for the WPBA qualifier and the over $ 2,000.00 prize fund. The field, deep in talent, would suffer the proverbial luck of the draw as the top half of the bracket had most of the tournament favorites such as # 30 ranked WPBA pro Janet Atwell along with two-time GLT points winner Julie Melman. The top-heavy bracket also featured top tour players Dawn Fox and previous stop winner and defending Billiard Club of Louisville champion Julia Gabriel, who would survive tight match after tight match to make it to Sunday's play undefeated.
In the other half of the bracket, England's Maria Catalano cut a straight path to Sunday with match scores of 7-1, 7-2, and 7-4, where she would then dispense with Tina Carpenter 7-3, and Julia Gabriel 7-2, to capture the winner's side. Gabriel, determined to avenge her loss to Catalano, scored a big win over Janet Atwell 7-5, to earn her place in the finals. The finals seemed to prove that old cliche of "the cold seat" for Catalano as she was unable to get any momentum going and would eventually fall to Gabriel by a score of 9-3, giving Gabriel back-to-back tour victories and points lead.
The tour's next stop will be at Guppies Casual Dining & Billiards in Holland, Michigan on November 18th & 19th for a WPBA qualifier plus $ 500.00 added tournament.
