Gabe Owen |
With a 3-2 win in the finals, Gabe Owen completed an undefeated run through the field to win the Derby City Classic One Pocket Event.
Owen made his way to the finals with a bye in the round before and was able to sit comfortably and wait for the match between Larry Nevel and Francisco Bustamante.
Nevel defeated Bustamante 3-0 to get to the finals; a rematch against Owen from earlier in the tourney.
Owen drew first blood and took a 1-0 lead, but Nevel took control and ran eight straight in game two to quickly tie the score at 1-1. Nevel took the lead with a win in game three, but Owen showed his patience and ball making ability with wins in games four and five for the title win.
Owen earned $12,000 for first place, while Nevel settled for $6000 in prize money.
With his 15th place finish in the banks division combined with the win in the one pocket division, Owen is now the man to beat for the All Around Bonus.
One day remains in the Derby City Classic and Saturday will feature the end of the 9-ball division as well as the finals in the straight pool challenge between Niels Feijen and Darren Appleton.
