Ga Young Kim came back to avenge an earlier loss and win the Women's Virginia State 9-Ball Championship held by the Chesapeake Area Tour at Champion Billiards and Sports Café in Arlington, VA.
Ga Young Kim was bounced to the one-loss side in the 32 player field on Saturday by Jeannie Seaver, the same player who beat her in the finals of the Ladies Spirit Tour event last weekend. Seaver continued on the winners side, only to fall to WPBA #8 ranked Kim Shaw for the hot-seat.
When Seaver took the trip to the left side of the board, she found her old foe Ga Young Kim waiting for her. This time, it was Ga Young Kim coming out on top, with a 7-3 victory over Seaver.
This set up the true double elimination finals between Ga Young Kim and Kim Shaw. Set #1 saw Ga Young Kim race to a 3-0 lead. With that lead, Ga Young Kim was able to hold Shaw off and score the 7-3 victory. The second set started off close, with the players tied at 2-2, but then Shaw made some uncharacteristic errors that Ga Young Kim capitalized on to take a 4-2 lead. The final score was 7-4 to Ga Young Kim, as she was crowned the Women's Virginia State 9-Ball Champion.
Ga Young Kim collected $550 in addition to the paid qualifier to the Women's US Open, while Shaw settled for $405 in second place prize money. Seaver and Tiffany Nelson filled out the top four spots.
