The WPBA Website is reporting that Ga-Young Kim has won the WPBA US Open.
The theme of the event appeared to be "revenge" as not only did Kim avenge her loss to Karen Corr in the finals last year, but WPBA up-and-comer Kelly Fisher avenged her loss to Allison Fisher two weeks ago in Canada.
On the winners side Saturday night Kim defeated Karen Corr, while at the same time Melissa Herndon was sending Allison Fisher to the one-loss side. This meant that both the #1 and #2 ranked players had taken early losses and would be fighting through the one-loss side to try to get to the finals. Kim and Herndon met up for the hot-seat, where Kim scored a 9-7 win.
On the one-loss side, Corr defeated Jeanette Lee 9-8, but Allison Fisher did not have the same results against Kelly Fisher. Kelly had dropped a match to Allison two weeks ago after holding a big lead, but things were different this time as Kelly scored the 9-6 win. This left Allison in 5th place knowing that a second place finish by Corr would move Corr into first place on the points list.
Corr started the TV rounds on Sunday with a win over Kelly Fisher in Fisher's first televised match. Corr then kept things going with a tight 7-5 win over Herndon. This left Herndon in third and assured Corr of the #1 spot on the points list. The top spot on the points list would have to be enough for Corr as Ga-Young Kim avenged her hill-hill loss to Corr one year ago and scored a hill-hill win this time.
Kim earned $12,500 for first place, while Corr settled for $9,000. Herndon pocketed $7000 for third place.
