Ga Young Kim, the 19-year old Korean pool sensation, won her second J. Pechauer North East Women's Tour event at Castle Billiards in East Rutherford, NJ. But it wasn't without a fight from some of JPNEWT's top players.
Ga Young posted wins on Saturday over Jeannie Seaver, Sueyen Rhee, and Caroline Pao, but on Sunday she had her hands full with Gina Kim-Lipsky in the battle for the hot seat. Gina was very determined to beat Ga Young and took advantage of Ga Young's rare mistakes and misses to even the match out at 4 games each. But Ga Young caught a fresh wind and won the next three games to win the match, 7-4.
JPNEWT's #2 ranked player, Liz Schwartreich posted a Saturday win over Teresa Diller and then lost to #1 ranked Jennifer Barretta. Liz then stormed through the 1-loss side with wins over Barbara Stock, Jeannie Seaver, Caroline Pao, and then on Sunday over Carol Clark before matching up with Gina Kim Lipsky. Liz took serious aim at Gina and won the match, 7-0, for the trip to the finals against Ga Young.
Ga Young was still struggling in the finals and Liz kept her from running away in the score or around the table with many well-played safeties. But Ga Young found another stride with the score 5-4 and ran it up to 7-4 before Liz pulled herself back to the table to come within one game at 7-6. But that would be the last game Liz would win as Ga Young went on to win, 9-6.
JPNEWT wishes to thank Rich and Mary Sacco and the staff at Castle Billiards for a wonderful event and looks forward to the 10th Annual NJ State 9-ball Championships with at least $3000 added!!!
