The Olhausen Billiards Desert All Around Tour brought 40 players to Main Street Billiards in Mesa, Arizona on August 11th and 12th to play 9-ball on the 9 footers.
The usual assortment of top Arizona talent was featured at this event, including ‘The Freezer' Scott Frost, tour points leader Mitch Ellerman, 2005 All Around Champion Terry Osborne, 2004 All Around Champion Tony Confalone, Mike Pankoff, Dennis Orender, Chuck Evans and last month's winner Mike Williams.
The first round didn't result in many surprises, but top seeds started falling to the left side of the board in the second round as Williams, Pankoff and Orender all suffered losses.
The Arizona representative to the recent BCA Junior Nationals, Jack Sanchez played strong in this event and took Orender to hill-hill on the one loss side before a scratch on the break allowed Orender to finish off the match.
Sunday winner's side matches saw Terry Osborne defeated Rudy Alameda, Mitch Ellerman defeat Glenn Bond, Nick De Leon beat Mike Sandoval and Scott Frost upend Chuck Evans. Ellerman then sent Osborne to the one loss side 9-6 and De Leon scored a dominating 9-2 win over Frost.
Frost took out his frustration on Rudy Alameda with a 9-2 thrashing and went to face Chuck Evans. Trailing 6-4 against Chuck Evans, Frost won five straight games for a 9-6 win.
On the winners side, Mitch Ellerman had to face his good friend Nick De Leon. Both players struggled in this one, but Ellerman came out with the 9-6 win.
On the one loss side, Frost followed up his five straight games against Evans with nine straight games against De Leon and a 9-0 win.
The single event finals were a race to thirteen and Frost came out on fire winning the first eight games to set his run at twenty two straight games won. Then the wheels fell off for Frost as Ellerman came back to win eight of the next nine games and cut Frost's lead to 9-8. Ellerman's run was enough to get Frost's attention as he won the next four games for the 13-8 win.
Ellerman's second play finish keeps him solidly at #1 on the points list, but Frost has moved into second place only 190 points behind Ellerman with four more events to play this season.
