Robert Frost welcomed the New Year by claiming first place at Rack N Cue in Campbellsville, KY on Jan 4, 2009 after going into the losers bracket early. The event was the monthly open nine ball, races to 7 on Valley bar boxes, and true double elimination with $1000 guaranteed prize fund. 36 shooters turned out to compete in the area's most active tournament room. Call David Whitlock at 270-465-5918 for info on several upcoming events.
The final six shooters comprised a very dangerous group of 9 ballers. Frost knocked out Fast Eddie Miller 7-1. Duke Laha muscled out the powerful Billy Peay by 7-3. The winners final was a terrific match with David Rice edging the omnipresent 14 year old straight shooter, Landon Shuffett, at hill-hill. Frost went on to knock Laha into 4th place 7-3.
That left Landon and Robert to face off for the right to be in the Finals. Once again, it was a thriller with Robert getting the case game at double hill. Robert was loose and in stroke as he moved on needing to beat David Rice twice. Perhaps the wait in the hot seat cooled David off, but it was Robert taking the $500 first prize by 7-3 and 7-5.
Owner David Whitlock has a "B" player tournament, the next monthly event (first Saturday of the February), and a Kentucky state resident State championship in the next 8 weeks.
