Billy Fowler
Billy Fowler has won at least one stop on the Viking Cues’ Q City 9-Ball Tour every year for the last five. He won two last year in what proved to be his best earnings year since he first appeared in our database, winning a stop on the Viking Tour in 2004. He chalked up his most recent at a Q City 9-Ball stop in Piedmont, SC on Saturday, June 27, downing the tour’s current points leader, Dalton Messer in the battle for the hot seat. The two opted out of a final match at about 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. The $500-added event drew 33 entrants to Pal’s Billiards in Piedmont, SC.
They battled in that hot seat match after Fowler had sent Hunter Zayas to the loss side 9-3 and Messer had defeated Benjy Voyles 6-3 in the two winners’ side semifinals. Fowler claimed the hot seat and, as it turned out, the event title with a 9-2 win.
On the loss side, in the first money round, Zayas picked up Scott Ward, who’d defeated junior player Landon Hollingsworth (#2 points leader on the tour) 7-4 and Josh Miller 7-3 to reach him. Voyles drew Steven Ellis, who’d recently eliminated Darrell Caldwell 6-7 (Caldwell racing to 9) and Sammy Manley 6-4.
Ward and Zayas battled to double hill before Ward prevailed 7-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals. He was joined by Voyles, who’d defeated Ellis 6-2.
Voyles downed Ward 6-3 in those quarterfinals, before himself being eliminated by Messer 6-4 in the semifinals. Messer and Fowler then opted out a final match, leaving Fowler, as the undefeated hot seat occupant, with the official event title.
Tour directors Herman and Angela Parker thanked the ownership and staff at Pal’s Billiards for their hospitality, as well as title sponsor Viking Cues, Bar Pool Tables, Delta 13 Racks, AZBilliards, Tickler Pool Ball Washing Machine, Skyline Construction, Federal Savings Bank Mortgage Division and Dirty South Grind Apparel Co.
On the 4th of July weekend (July 4-5), the Viking Cues’ Q City 9-Ball Tour will head back to Bristol, TN for a stop at Janet Atwell’s Borderline Billiards. According to Parker and Atwell, players who have been to any East Coast beach since June 20 and/or either live in Florida or have returned from a trip there since that time, will not be eligible to participate in the event.
