The BWPPA tour returned to Savannas Pool & Snooker, Whitefield, Manchester, for Event 2, from the 1-2 July 2023.
A strong field were competing for the first prize of £250, and the title of 2023 Simonis Grand Prix Champion.
Dave Beaumont came into the event as the undisputed no1 and had the chance to forge ahead in the absence of the no 2 ranked player, Fred Dinsmore, Roy Kimberley was defending the title he won last year and the 100 valuable ranking points.
Thanks to Fred Dinsmore Billiards, for sponsoring the membership of last years most improved player Geoff Bland.
Early action all 4 seeds had emphatic wins, Beaumont beat Gary Swift 7-2, Kimberley went one better with a 7-1 win over John Greensmith, Tony Southern beat Bland 7/2, and Danny Luton whitewashed Darren Brook 7/0.
In the winners qualifying round, Beaumont whitewashed Luton 7/0, and Kimberley took a hard fought 7/5 win over old rival Southern.
In the losers’ side later stages, Southern lost to Swift 3/6, whilst Luton beat Greensmith by the same score, to both reach the semi-finals.
The semi-final took place on the Saturday evening, Luton reached a first final for a while with a 7/2 win over Kimberley, and in the other semi-final, Beaumont overcome Swift 7/4.
It was to be a Luton v Beaumont final.
Beaumont started off well to lead 4/0, but Luton did have chances to win in 3 of those frames. Finding himself 5/0 down, Luton found some form to take 2 of the next 3 frames, but it was just delaying the inevitable as Beaumont took frame 9, to win for the 4th time in a row.
A video of the main event final is available to watch here. We were unable to edit video due to IT issues, so this is just the raw footage.
In the challenge cup semi-finals, Bland beat Greensmith 4/2, Southern beat Brook 4/2, and in the final Southern starting off scratch beat Bland, who was getting a 1 frame start, 4/1.
