Kelly Fisher and Allison Fisher played against each other twice on the KWIKFIRE Tour stop in Mooreville, NC on the weekend of June 5-6. Allison prevailed in their first meeting, but Kelly took the final of the $2,500-added event, which was hosted by 150 N Out Billiards and Darts, and drew 22 entrants.
They met first among the winners' side final four, where Allison's 9-7 win put her into the hot seat match. She was joined there by Amy Chen, who'd just defeated Gerda Hofstatter 7-7 (Hofstatter had to reach 9 games). Allison gained the hot seat with a 9-3 win over Chen and waited for Kelly's return.
Moving over, Kelly's first stop was Kim Shaw, who'd defeated Marianne Merrill 9-2 and Christi Steele 9-3. Hofstatter picked up Holly Sholes, who'd gotten by Dana Aft 7-3 and Belinda Calhoun 7-6. It was Hofstatter and Kelly advancing to the quarterfinals with identical 9-4 victories over Sholes and Shaw. Kelly and Hofstatter then got locked up in a double hill battle that eventually went Kelly's way.
Kelly defeated Chen 9-4 in the semifinals and then appeared to lose a little steam in the opening games of the single race-to-9 finals against Allison. At the end of the seventh game, Kelly was down 5-2. She fought back, though, winning six of the next nine to knot things at double hill and then won the deciding game to take home the first place prize.
Money prizes were awarded to the top APA amateurs in the event, with Christi Steele taking the top $60 prize. Marianne Merrill, Amber Setzer and Katie Cowan split a $40 second place prize. Hollie Sholes' name was drawn for the event's break and run contest, but she failed to make a ball, and prize money was carried over to the next event, scheduled for July.
