The past two weekends, three NCS 8-Ball qualifiers took place in Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia. The following five individuals have qualified to play in the NCS 8-Ball Championship scheduled to be held February 2009: Eddie Little, Joey Gray, Mike Banks Jr., Brandon Shuff and Matt Clatterbuck.
A total of 64 players will converge in February at the NCS 8-Ball Championship where they will vie for a piece of the $32,000 purse as well as an all expense paid spot to represent the United States at the WPA World 8-Ball Championships.
The NCS, which was introduced to the pool playing community a mere two months ago is the brainchild of Mark Griffin, who was last year ranked number five on the Billiards Digest list of most influential people within the industry.
The National Championship Series is a series of five national events one each in the following disciplines; 8-Ball, 9-Ball, 10-Ball, 14.1 and One Pocket. The NCS is not a tour, as points are not used by the NCS to track players' progress throughout the series. Each national event is considered independent and players can participate in qualifiers for as many of the cue disciplines as they choose.
