This past Saturday, the first weekly (Saturday) event at Felt Billiards located at 6133 Jericho Turnpike, Commack, New York drew a total field of twenty players to its eight ball bar table open event. The kick is the field is handicapped so that all can play and have a chance at taking the top spot. With a $30 entry (includes $5 green fees), a total of four players received payouts in the end including Evan Broxmeyer (1st), Robert Gipp (2nd), Joey Apples (3rd), and Jim Dowling (4th).
Broxmeyer, who has not been playing much this year, pulled off the inaugural victory by going undefeated through the board. He bested Robert Gipp for the hot-seat win 7-5 (Gipp received one game on the wire), then waited it out for his opponent in the true double elimination finals.
The one-loss side eventually saw everyone fall off the chart except Joey Apples and Robert Gipp. Apples defeated Jim Dowling in the quarters and with a race of 6-5 in the semis, fell quite hard by an ending score of 6-1 to Gipp. Gipp moved on to have another shot at Broxmeyer, but it was not to be as the first set (race of 7-6), saw Broxmeyer dominate the scoreboard finishing up at 7-2.
Thanks to the room for offering the players a fun weekly competitive arena. For more information on this or future Saturday events, contact Felt Billiards at (631) 623-6307 or visit the website at www.feltny.com. The tournament is played on seven-foot tables, however, the room offers play on nine-foot tables as well – all players are welcome.
