WITH TICKETS selling fast for the 21st annual PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup, event promoters Matchroom Sport can announce the selection criteria for Team Europe as they look to claim their fifth consecutive title in pool’s biggest event.
Taking place from Monday 1st to Thursday 4th December at the Tower Circus in Blackpool, the event features two five-man teams representing the USA and Europe competing in a series of singles and doubles matches.
After the all-wildcard 20th anniversary Mosconi Cup last year, 2014 will see the selection procedure for Europe revert to a combination of three ranking spots and two wildcards. The first three players will be:
1. No.1 ranked player on the five event Euro Tour Series.
- Treviso Open, 6-8 February
- North Cyprus Open, 10-12 April
- Austria Open, 22-24 May
- Portoroz Open, 21-23 August
- TBA, 22-24 October
2. No.1 ranked player on the four event World Series.
- China Open, 1-8 June
- World 9 Ball, 16-27 June
- World 8 Ball, 16-23 August
- US Open, TBA October
3. No.1 ranked player on a Combined World and Euro Tour Series ranking list.
In the event that a player tops all three ranking lists, then the second placed players on the Euro Tour and World Rankings respectively would take the other two spots. If a player is top of the Euro Tour list and Combined list, or World list and Combined list, then the available spot would go to the next highest player on the Combined list.
In the event of any of the above tournaments not taking place, or being postponed to a later date, the event lists will be reduced accordingly. The World events will carry approximately 50% more points due to the international strength of the field. Additional events can and may be added to this list provided they fit the criteria.
All five players, including the two wildcards, will be announced around the end of October and ranking lists will be published on www.matchroompool.com as the Facebook page and Twitter feed of the Mosconi Cup.
