Wednesday, 01 August 2012: The 8-ball individuals at this year's Dynamic Billiard European Youth Championships have been decided.
Moritz Lauwereyns (BEL) crushed Berk Mehmetcik (TNC) with 7:3. It was amazing to have these two players in the final. For both of them, it was already a great achievement. Since they are both known to be slow players, the tournament management decided to have the match under the shot-clock. Lauwereyns seemed to have the better role in the final and won the match deservedly.
In the pupil's division, Joshua Filler (GER) had to deal with David Vu (GER). Since they are both teammates in the German contingency, they know each other quite well. No wonder the match was close. In the end, Filler had the better and snatched his second title for these European Championships.
In the girl's division, Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL) defeated Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR) 5:2. Just like in the semi-final match, Polovinchuk missed some chances in the early stage of the match and was down 1:3 quickly. But Khodjaeva played too strong for her to intercept her. In the end, Khodjaeva won 5:2 and her victory was never in danger.
The tournament will continue tomorrow 09:00 CET with 9-ball individuals and will later on switch to team competition.
The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP).
