MATCHROOM SPORT can today announce that the 2014 PARTYPOKER MOSCONI CUP will be delivered in its entirety in the US on ESPN3, ESPN’s live multi-screen sports network.
Starting at 2pm EST on Monday 1st December, the Mosconi Cup is the annual Europe v USA 9 ball pool showdown taking place at the iconic Tower Circus in Blackpool, with America intent on revenge after defeat in Las Vegas 12 months ago.
Now in its 21st year, the PartyPoker Mosconi Cup heads to Blackpool for the first time, where sold out record crowds will witness pool’s high-octane answer to the Ryder Cup.
New captain Mark Wilson has assembled a determined and youthful squad of America’s most ambitious pool stars, led by Shane Van Boening who has won the US Open in each of the last three years.
The ultimate champions will be the team that reaches 11 points first and play runs from Monday 1st, culminating in a nail-biting finish on the evening of Thursday 4th December.
Up against the Americans will be a European team that has enjoyed six victories in the last seven runnings of the storied event. Packed with champions such as Darren Appleton, Niels Feijen and Karl Boyes, the Euros will start out as favourites.
Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said, “We’re delighted that ESPN has given sports fans across America the chance to see every ball of every rack of what is without a shadow of a doubt pool’s greatest show.
“This year’s Mosconi Cup is an intriguing battle between a new look American outfit approaching the event in a different way and a European team that has been riding high over the past few years.
“Above all, the Mosconi Cup provides great entertainment from start to finish and coupled with intense national pride, makes it a must-see sports event, ” he added.
