New Iberia, LA – Dragon Promotions and host Emerald Billiards will once again bring pro level pool back to the state of Louisiana in the 5th Annual Poison DP Pro Classic on October 16th-20th, 2012. Emerald Billiards will host this year's 9-Ball and 10-Ball Pro tournaments which are open to all players, back-to-back. The event will be in conjunction with the Ozone Billiards US Amateur Open October 17th-21st. The event takes place the week leading upto the US Open 9-Ball Championship, which is giving all players a one day grace period on Sunday if their entry is already paid.
"This is an excellent opportunity for players to warm-up for the US Open 9-Ball. There is no reason to miss it and very kind of Barry Behrman to give players a chance to travel to Virginia on Sunday", said Cindy Lee, CEO of Dragon Promotions.
"Emerald Billiards is thrilled to make this year's DP Pro Classic and Ozone US Amateur Open bigger and better. The added money is being bumped up significantly and the pros will get two shots at the money with a pro 9-Ball event and a pro 10-Ball event. This is becoming a great tradition in Louisiana working with Dragon Promotions as the only event drawing top pros from all around the country. And being the week before the US Open 9-Ball, we might draw a few more foreign stars! ", said Keith Hulin, owner of Emerald Billiards.
Two-time Champion Mika Immonen of Finland will be back to regain his title from new 10-Ball Champion Johnny Archer. Charlie Williams will be back to dfend his 9-Ball title with players such as last year's 3rd place Shane Van Boening , Rodney Morris (Honolulu- Hawaii) US Open Champion; Thorsten Hohmann (Fulda,Germany), 2x World Champion; Shawn Putnam (Youngstown ,Ohio), 2x Pro Tour stop Winner; and house pro at Emerald's, Brandon Shuff. More pros are slated to join the event and fans will be updated with the new top names.
"The DP Pro Classic at Emerald Billiards is one of the most fun events we pros play in all year," says Johnny Archer.
Emerald Billiards will also be expanding creatng an addtional "green room". This special room will feature an additional 10 tables for special match-ups and VIPs.
The week in October will be jam packed with tournaments between the pro and amateur men and women's side. With hundreds of players expected to attend and vendors, it will be the biggest and most exciting event in Louisiana of the year!
"Emerald Billiards is a great venue. The tables are in mint condition, the people there are warm, and the food is great! I'm looking forward to going back to Louisiana and getting back my title," says Mika Immonen. Immonen has won this event in 2009 in Orlando and again in 2010 when it moved to Louisiana.
Emerald Billiards opened in 2008 but moved in 2009 to a new million dollar facility by owner Keith Hulin. Emerald Billiards has 20 Valley Bar Tables and 8 Brunswick Gold Crown Vs and has hosted major amateur events such as the APA Tri-Cup with over 800 players. This will be the second time Emerald will host both the amateur and pro events. The event is also supported by the APA Acadiana operated by Preston and Lisa Granger, who run one of the top ten largest pool leagues in America with over 4000 members.
Emerald Billiards and the APA Acadiana will also be running numerous qualifiers where amateur players can earn a free spot into the pro events for $15-20 entry fees.
