The Chesapeake Area Tour got their 2003 season underway with twenty six players at Champion Billiards and Sports Café in Laurel, MD.
The hot seat was claimed by Sueyen Rhee who defeated Liz Schwartzriech. Schwartzriech took the trip to the one-loss side and found Ellie Chang waiting with a score to settle. Schwartzreich had defeated Chang on Saturday and Chang was waiting for her chance at revenge. Revenge was exactly what Chang got, as she defeated Schwartzriech 7-4.
With this event being a double qualifier for the WPBA event in Illinois, both Rhee and Chang knew they would both be going to Illinois. Only one of the qualifiers was for a paid spot though, so the double elimination finals would determine who was paying for their trip to Illinois.
Chang took control of the first match and won 7-1 to force a final set. The second set was closer than the first, but in the end it was Chang who won 7-4 for the win and paid WPBA qualifier. Chang collected $595 for first and Rhee pocketed $405 for second. Schwartzriech and Karen Armstrong filled out the top 4 spots.
The Chesapeake Area Tour will be at Bill & Billies Cuesport in Arnold, MD for the 2003 Women's National Capital 9-Ball Championship on March 15th - 16th.
