Day three at the IPT North American 8-Ball Open is complete and another sixty players have been eliminated today.
While one of the big stories of day two was the play of WPBA Star Allison Fisher, the story on day three is also the story of a European WPBA star. This time though, that player is #11 ranked Sarah Ellerby. Ellerby scored wins on Tuesday over Corey Harper, Danny Basavich and Teddy Garrahan to finish with a 3-2 record and move on to the third round of play. Garrahan and Basavich were eliminated in a tie for 61st place. Fisher ended Tuesday with an 0-5 record and was eliminated.
As for Tuesday eliminations, the biggest story was the elimination of Mike 'The Mouth' Sigel. Sigel, who was undefeated on Monday, ended Tuesday with a 2-3 record after losses to Marlon Manalo, Marko Lohtander and former Snooker Star Quinten Hann. Sigel settles for a 61st place finish.
Other top stars eliminated on Tuesday included Ismael Paez, George San Souci, Gandy Valle, Shannon Daulton, Oliver Ortmann, George Breedlove, Keith McCready, Kim Davenport, Allen Hopkins, Fabio Petroni, Jeremy Jones and Luc Salvas. All players eliminated on Tuesday earned $5000 in prize money.
With the level of play turned up a notch on Tuesday, fewer players emerged with perfect records for the day. Players who were able to go unbeaten on Tuesday were David Matlock, Charlie Williams, Santos Sambajon, Rafael Martinez, Mika Immonen, Ivica Putnick, Quinten Hann and Nick Varner. Rafael Martinez is now the only player who has not suffered a loss in the event.
The tournament field now consists of 60 players and will be narrowed to just 36 players after Wednesday play.
