Ellen Van Buren flew up from Florida on a mission to win the WPBA Florida Classic Qualifier from JPNEWT's Clifton Billiards event and it was Mission Accomplished at JPNEWT's second event of 2005! Ellen charged through the field undefeated scoring wins over Sandra Pereira, Dawn Fox, and Hollie Burk before winning the hill-hill hot seat match over Gina Kim-Lipsky.
Gina posted wins over Michelle Colletti, Barbara Stock, and Liz Schwartzreich before being sent to the left side of the chart by Ellen.
Gina lost the right to rechallenge Ellen in a 7-5 loss to JPNEWT 2003 POY Liz "The Giant Killer" Schwartzreich. Liz posted wins over Brenda Hearas and Supadra Boonpasook before her first loss to Gina, and then won over Barbara Stock and Brenda Heras before winning her rematch with Gina to go to the finals against Ellen.
The finals were as close as they get. In a single race to 9, Ellen posted the first win. Liz then tied her, but Ellen pulled ahead by two games, 4-2. The rest of the match would never see more than a two-game distance between the two, and always with Ellen in the lead. With the score at 8-7, Liz took advantage of a clustered layout to three-foul Ellen and go hill-hill, but when Ellen was on two fouls a Hail Mary third kick at the one-ball worked and she subsequently won that game for the match 9-7.
