The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour drew a field of 70 players to their fourth stop of the year at First Break Cafe in Sterling VA.
'The Earthquake' Keith McCready rumbled through the field undefeated including a 9-3 victory over Pookie Rasmeloungo for the hot seat. McCready got comfortable and awaited an opponent in the finals.
That opponent would be Amar Kang. Kang bounced back from a loss to Mike Davis in the second round and won 9 matches to get to the finals for a showdown with McCready. Kang won the second stop on the tour at Bill & Billie's in Arnold, MD back in February and looked ready to repeat as champion last week in Rockville until McCready beat him in the hot-seat match. This time, Kang had a full head of steam and would see if McCready would be easier to beat from the one-loss side.
Kang won the first set of the finals 9-5 to force a final race to nine which was won by McCready 9-6 for the tournament win. McCready pocketed $1100 for first, while Kang took home $730 for second. Rasmeloungo and Kevin West filled out the top four spots.
The ladies division drew a field of sixteen players and with both Nicole Mancini and Sueyen Rhee competing in the WPBA Delta Classic, the crowd was assured of a new winner being crowned. That winner was Malea Haacke who went undefeated and beat Jinhee Park in the finals. Haacke won $325 for first, while Park settled for $215. Amanda Smith and Amy Rodgers filled out the top four spots.
The Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour will be at Fast Eddie's Billiard Café in Alexandria, VA for their next event on April 12th - 13th, 2003.
