Many spectators witness touching opening ceremony
Friday, 29 July 2011: The Dynamic European Youth Championships 2011 are officially declared opened by EPBF President Gre Leenders.
A decent number of spectators came to watch the opening ceremony for the event. Over 150 players from 29 nations were represented by two players per country who entered the arena waving their respective national flag.
The ceremony was framed by local singer Sarah Meyer who performed several beautiful songs. She also sang the Luxembourg national anthem in the beginning.
After the national athlete representatives have walked into the arena, the dignitaries present attended the audience with some speeches. The dignitaries were the President of the Luxembourg Federation, Mr. Albert Greten; the President of the Pool section Mr. Paolo Dinis; the General Manager of the Alvisse Parc Hotel Mrs. Marielle Micoud; the Sales Manager Mr. Helmut Burger; and the President of the EPBF, Mr. Gre Leenders. Among all speakers, Gre Leenders achieved to really touch the audience. He talked about the future and the youth and he asked for a minute of silence for the victims of the recent attacks on Norway. It was a truly emotional speech and a worthy start of a week of juvenile pool-billiard action in Luxembourg.
The European Championships are hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP).
