The Fast Eddie's 9 Ball Tour had its second stop of the year in Houston on March 7-9. This was the second of nine events scheduled for the year 2003.
The sixty plus field was very tough and filled with talent. Jeremy Jones and Cliff Joyner were the top picks and disappointed no one.
Jeremy and Cliff had to tend with Johnny Morrow, Al Mason, Charlie Bryant, David Henson, Shane Harvey, Rigo Pena, Ronnie Allen, David Gutierrez, Bill Blanda and Tom Milburn among others.
Cliff Joyner had a few close calls on the way to capturing the hot seat in the winner's bracket by defeating Charlie Bryant 9-8, Tim Towell 9-6, David Gutierrez 9-8, Barry Strickland 9-6, Dave Cardenas 9-3, and a very determined Johnny Morrow 9-8.
Jeremy Jones started with wins over Nick Hood 9-4, Shane Harvay 9-7, Freddie Brock 9-4, Charlie Mora 9-3, when he ran into Johnny Morrow in the quarter finals and was defeated in a nail biter 9-8.
Now on the one loss side, Jeremy had wins over Barry Strickland 9-4 and Dave Cardenas 9-2. Jeremy, then, played Johnny Morrow for the winner of the one loss side and Jeremy prevailed.
Johnny Morrow's third place finish was even more impressive when it was revealed that Johnny had been released just two days before the tournament after spending fifteen days in the hospital with pneumonia.
Dave Cardenas finished fourth and really opened some eyes along the way. Pretty good for, as he put it, "I'm just a week-end player".
This set the stage for the finals between the two champions, Jeremy Jones and Cliff Joyner. The first set kept the crowd on the edge of their seats, with Jeremy edging out Cliff 9-8. In the second set, Jeremy was just to much for Cliff defeating him 9-5.
A special thanks to to Mark Lewis, Keith Shelton and his staff at Fast Eddie's for hosting a great event.
