Mike Donnelly got by Dwight Dixon twice to take first place on the second stop of the Dishaw Cues CNY Tour on the weekend of October 16-17. The $500-added amateur event drew 32 entrants to Hippo's House of Billiards in Yorkville, NY.
Donnelly and Dixon, both “A” players, met first among the winners' side final four, where a 7-5 victory by Donnelly sent Dixon west. Thomas Kean defeated John Cotter 7-4 to face Donnelly in the hot seat match. Donnelly dominated in that match, winning 7-1, and waited in the hot seat for Dixon to come back.
Dixon's three-match return from the one-loss side began against Vic Conte, Jr., who'd defeated Mike Renshaw 8-4 and Dan Donohue 8-2. Cotter squared off against Paul Enslin, who'd shutout Rich Riccardi and defeated Nick Brucato 7-5. Identical 7-5 wins over Conte and Enslin set Dixon and Cotter against each other in the quarterfinals. Another 7-5 victory, this one Dixon over Cotter, put Dixon up against Kean in the semifinals.
Kean got a second crack at Donnelly with a 7-3 win over Dixon. He and Donnelly battled back and forth to double hill, before Donnelly prevailed and completed his undefeated weekend.
