Thirty of the best amateurs from the Midwest region gathered at E&A Billiards in Milan, Ohio for the sixth Midwest Fury tour stop this last weekend.
By day's end it was Mark DeYoung and Danny Smith on a collision course for the hot seat match with DeYoung sending Danny Barns to the B side and Smith sending Ted Reeves to join him. In the king of the hill match, it was all DeYoung as he handled Smith and secured his spot in the finals.
Meanwhile, Mark Ritter and points-leader Casey Ward were dominating the B side bracket until they ran into Ted Reeves and Danny Barns. Reeves left Ward in 5th/6th and Barns did the same for Ritter. When Reeves and Barns matched up to see who would be left in fourth, both players were fighting hard to stay in the tournament. Barns took and early lead and though Reeves tied it up hill-hill, Barns prevailed hill-hill. Barns took his momentum into the semifinals against Smith and ousted him, 5-1.
Barns went on to the finals to have a rematch with DeYoung who had bested him hill-hill earlier in the tournament. Barns' chances for revenge began to look dim when DeYoung ran to an early 6-0 lead with a 4-9 combo, 2 caroms and 3 run-outs. DeYoung shot back with a few run-outs of his own but it was too late as DeYoung closed out the match 9-4, taking his second Fury Midwest win.
