Marietta, Georgia- Top ABP seeded Corey Deuel eliminated host Johnny Archer from the Scorpion Cues Johnny Archer Classic.
The Johnny Archer Classic ended Day 2 and the final 8 will return tomorrow. The Scorpion Cues Johnny Archer Classic is a Dragon Promotions production and sanctioned by the Association Of Billiard Professionals as an ABP International Points Ranking Tournament and hosted by the Marietta Billiard Club.
Deuel kept control during the match and Archer was not able to regain any momentum. Archer lost his earlier winners side match to Shannon Daulton.
"I didn't play bad. Just couldn't get anything going after the break, Corey outbroke me. And he played well," said Archer after the match.
A very nice consolation to Johnny, was that his poolroom the gigantic 15,000 square feet Marietta Billiard Club has been jam packed for 2 days straight. "Our numbers are up 300% compared to last year's on these same October dates. It's been a very successful event so far for us", said Melanie Archer, the 4x World Champion's lovely wife who co-runs the poolroom sports bar.
South Carolina's Josh Roberts upset a close 9-8 victory over tour veteran Rodney Morris. Morris was up 8-7, broke dry and the young, talented African American player proceeded to run the remaining set out.
Qatar's national coach Israel Rota is turning heads with his stellar wins over Donnie Mills 9-6 and a comeback from behind win over top ABP seed Shawn Putnam 9-8.
