Calgary AB -- SML Entertainment is pleased to announce that it is hosting the 2nd annual Open 9-Ball Championship at the Olympic Oval April 11-15. Total prize money is $50,000 with the winner pocketing $15,000. Alex Pagulayan, defending SML 9-ball Open Champion, 2005 US Open 9-ball Champion and 2004 9-ball World Champion is the first major player to register for the tourney.
"We are very proud to be able to hold a tournament of this caliber in Calgary," says Dean Fisher SML's Marketing Director. "The positive feedback we received from the world's best 9-ball players at last year's tournament was very gratifying. This year we have increased the overall purse to $50,000 and raised the first prize money to $15,000. Based on the positive 'buzz' that we have been receiving in the industry, we expect to attract many of the world-class 9-ballers from Canada and the United States as well as the United Kingdom and Europe to our tournament."
Fisher added that participation is limited to 128 players during the five-day competition. He also announced that Jim Wych, an international TV billiard analyst and host is returning as SML's Tournament Director. Mr. Wych is also a native Calgarian.
