Quarterfinals set for 11 a.m, semifinals at 1:15 p.m. with finals scheduled for 3:30
Want to know whether you might measure up against the toughest competitors? Say, for example, the final 16 of the original 128 who made it to the single-elimination Stage 2 of the 31st Annual Super Billiards Expo’s $12,000-added, Diamond Open Players Championship? The average FargoRate of the 16 ‘in the money’ finalists was 805, with a high of 845 (Fedor Gorst) and a low of 737 (Hunter Lombardo).
Coming out of Stage 1, after 10 p.m. last night (Sat., April 12), the final 16 went right to work becoming the final eight, where the field got even stronger, with an average FargoRate of 816; Gorst and Lombardo continuing to define the high and low of it. Jesus Atencio was the first to fall, to Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz (F.S.R.) 10-3. Lombardo was next, falling to John Morra 10-4.
In order of ascending racks-against, the Hitman, Thorsten Hohmann went down to Eagle Eye, Jayson Shaw 10-5. Neils Feijen downed Sanjin Pehlivanovic while Eklent Kaci was busy eliminating Pijus Labutis, both 10-6.
Three matches fell into the ‘almost double hill,’ 10-8 category; Gorst defeating the other Kaci brother (Kledio), David Alcaide eliminating Shane Wolford, and in a compelling cross-generational battle, Lukas Fracasso-Verner defeated The Kaiser, Ralf Souquet. The final 16 skipped the double-hill path to advancement.
With matches streaming via digitalpool.com (check Web site for instructions on how to watch) you can catch one or watch a number of the quarterfinals as they get underway, dependent on when you’re reading this. In what is certainly the marquee matchup of the event at this stage, Jayson Shaw and Fedor Gorst will go (or, depending on when you’re reading this) will have gone head-to-head in their quarterfinal match; a rematch from their Day Two, Mosconi Cup meeting, won by Shaw 5-2. The winner of the Gorst/Shaw match will face either F.S.R or Kledio Kaci in the semifinals.
Also vying for a berth in the semifinal ‘boat’ to the finals will be David Alcaide and Lukas Fracasso-Verner, who’s one of the two remaining competitors with a 700+ FargoRate. The winner of that match will face either the other 700+ FargoRate competitor, John Morra or Neils Feijen.
