Starcade Billiards had another great 9 ball event this past weekend. Eighty players came to compete for a piece of the $6,000.00 prize fund. Mike Davis and Tommy Kennedy battled until early Monday morning, with Mike Davis prevailing for the win and $1,680.00 for 1st place. Tommy Kennedy settled with $960.00 and 2nd place.
Tommy's road to the finals began with a narrow win over Traci Hines. Traci had him down 6-2 on a race to 9, but Tommy played strong to come out ahead. He then beat Mike Landrum, Rich Whittecar, Greg Hagin and Dwayne Bourgeois to reach the Bracket A finals.
Mike's road to the finals started with wins over Luther Blades, Ernesto, Kevin Johnson, Pablo Matheu, Morty Davis and Stoney Stone to the reach the B Bracket finals.
The hot seat match between Tommy Kennedy and Mike Davis was all Tommy with a 9-4 definitive win. Meanwhile, Stoney defeated Dwayne Bourgeois to have a another chance against the opponent that sent him to the one-loss side. This was an incredible match, with both players jumping and kicking to run out. You would have had to be there to believe it. The match was tied 8-8 when came up short on the eight ball and left himself a thin cut with inside spin to get on the 9 ball, which was on the head rail. He over cut it and left Stoney a backward bank in the head rail corner pocket and around-the-world shot on the cue ball. Well, Stoney pocketed the eight ball, but he hit the cue ball too hard, just to see it drain in the opposite head rail corner pocket and give the win to Mike Davis. Tommy had been waiting, watching these two guys play flawless and somewhat magical. He was in awe, just like I was... Mike Davis was in dead stroke and beat Tommy 12-10 for 1st place.
