James Davis, Jr. went undefeated to take top honors in the Fast Eddie's tour stop on the weekend of March 20-21. The $1000-added event drew 51 entrants to Fast Eddie's in San Antonio, TX.
From among the winners' side final four, Davis defeated Sam Manole 9-7 to get into the hot seat match. He was met by Bill Mykleby, who'd sent Manual Ayala west 9-5. In the first of their two matches, Davis dominated, grabbing the hot seat with a 9-3 win that sent Mykleby to the semifinals.
On the one-loss side, Max Eberle, who'd been sent over by Davis from among the winners' side final eight moved past Bill Fuller and Danny Almaraz, both 7-4, to draw Ayala. Sylver Ochoa, who'd been sent west by Ayala from the winners' side final eight, defeated Ismael Ramirez and Gordon Van Der Veer in back-to-back, double hill wins, faced Manole. Eberle made Ayala's trip to the one-loss side brief with a 7-5 win. Ochoa's third straight hill-hill battle went to Manole, who advanced to the quarterfinals against Eberle.
Five of the nine matches played out on the one-loss side among the event's final 12 players went double hill and Manole's victory over Eberle in the quarterfinals was the last of them. Manole moved on to meet Mykleby in the semifinals and was turned back 7-5 to end up in third place.
Fresh from a win, Mykleby put up more of a fight against Davis in the opening set of the adjusted, true double elimination than he'd offered in the hot seat match, but it wasn't enough. A second race-to-7 was avoided with Davis' 9-7 win that completed his undefeated weekend.
