Mike Davis completed an undefeated run through the field of 167 players to win the US Bar Table Championships 9-Ball Division.
Davis had notable wins over Bernardo Chavez, James Walden and Stan Tourangeau on his way to the quarter finals match where he beat Danny 'Kid Delicious' Basavich for the hot seat.
Basavich took the long trip to the left side of the board and ran into Canadian Edwin Montal. Montal had lost to Frankie Hernandez in the 3rd round of the event, but made his way through the one loss side. Montal's last three matches prior to Basavich were wins over Charlie Bryant, Stan Tourangeau and Dennis Orcollo. Montal handed Basavich his second loss and earned his spot against Davis in the finals.
All the momentum Montal had was not enough to stop Davis in the finals as Davis won the match and the $10,000 first prize.
One round of play is complete in the 225 player 8-Ball division. One notable player absent from the 8-Ball division is 9-Ball winner Davis. He explained to tournament director Jay Helfert on Friday that he had already promised his home room that he would be there this weekend for an event. That means the $5000 bonus available to a player for winning both the 8-ball and 9-ball divisions will not be paid out this year.
