The third stop of the new season for the New England 9-Ball Series took place September 28th at Buster's Billiards in Somersworth, New Hampshire, with top regional names such as Dan Simoneau, Rick Gatta, Dave Fernandez, Randy Labonte, and Phillip Stevens showing in the sixteen player field.
The $640 prize purse was up for grabs and Vermont's Dave Fernandez seemed to have blinders on during his play for his shot at the dough. Although not undefeated, the very player that put him on the one-loss side ended up double dipped in the end by Fernandez.
Even with a smaller field, the players gave it their all. A few great matches that took place included Rick Gatta and Shayne Cote – Gatta was ahead 6-2 at one point, but Cote didn't give up, instead coming back to defeat Gatta on the hill 7-6. Jim Toner also had Cote down at one point during the event 6-5 but like the trooper he proved to be, he pushed past Toner on the hill as well.
Fernandez came into the finals from the one-loss side as Cote took full advantage of a one-sided match in the hot-seat overcoming Fernandez 7-3. But the finals, the tables would turn in Fernandez' favor after he bested Dan Simoneau in the semis (7-2) to reach the final match.
In the finals, Fernandez came with guns a blazin bringing nothing short of his “A” game to take down Cote. The first set score ended showing 7-2 on the board forcing a second set that would end fairly similar at 7-3. Congrats to Dave Fernandez for scoring round three of the season.
Stop four for the tour ($600 added with 32 players) will be held October 12th at Snookers Billiards in Providence, Rhode Island. For more information, visit the tour website www.mdpromotions.com
