Defending Champion in 10-ball loses his opening match
Monday, 06 August 2012: What a catastrophic start for Enrique Correia (POR), last
year's European Champion in senior's 10-ball. After having had a walk-over in the first round, he got creamed by Jan Lundell (SWE) with 1:7. Lundell, who won over Steve Lambrechts (BEL) in the first round with 7:4, left no chance to the defending Champion in the match. While Lundell advances to the single elimination round of the last 32 players, Correia walks to the loser's side of the draw where he will need to win another match in order to join Lundell in the single elimination of the event.
Another high profile player in the senior's division is Manuel Pereira (POR). He also was not able to win his opener and fell to Thomas Radakovits (AUT) with 2:7 in the first round.
Last year's bronze medallist, Jimmy Worung (NED) fulfilled the Dutch hopes in the early rounds. As a seeded player, he had a bye in the first round and then defeated Giorgio Margola (ITA) clearly with 7:4 to get a spot among the best 32 players.
After two years of absence, the ladies division has been resurrected. The four players in the winner's qualification round are Susanne Wessel, Katja Kahl (both GER), Manon Melief (NED) and Monika Oeschger (SUI). They all have won two matches so far and will meet tomorrow at 09:00 CET.
Today, at 16:00 CET, the quarter-final matches of the senior's straight pool competition
will be played.
The event is hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket
Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). For further information and reference please go to the federation website www.epconline.eu , follow us on twitter @EPBF_News or contact our press office.
