The lady billiard enthusiasts showed up to do battle at the tenth stop of the Fast Eddie's 9 Ball Tour sponsored by AO Custom Cues. These ladies have incredible support for each other as a group, but when they get down to it, the scrap is on!
Top picks were Amanda Lampert, four time Tour winner this year, Audra Carter, another event winner, Jennifer Kraber, and Kim Pierce, winner of last month's event in Beaumont.
Earning the fourth place position was Amanda Lampert of San Antonio, who has not had much time to hit the tables lately with her sister's wedding taking priority. Amanda got a bye the first round only to be upset by the new upstart, Corina Campbell in a close match, 7-5. From the left side, Amanda had victories over Shayla Neris, Cindy Cole, Jennifer Kraber. She, then, ran into a very determined Kim Pierce and had to settle for a respectable fourth place.
Kim Pierce of Bastrop with her “road dawg” and friend, Diana Cardona, has hardly missed an event in the history of the Tour. Kim started out with a first round loss to Corina Campbell, but reached down and caught a gear on the one loss side with triumphs over Audra Carter, Michelle Cortez, Nikki Smith and Amanda Lampert. In a rematch with Corina for the finals of the one loss side, Kim showed a lot of heart but came up short and had to settle for an impressive third place finish.
Cristina Delagarza of Austin, a newbie on the Ladies Tour, showed great poise with thoughtful and methodical play on her way to winning the hot seat. Cristina succeeded over Shayla Neris, Audra Carter, Jennifer Kraber and Corina Campbell to win the winner's bracket.
Corina Campbell of San Antonio has only played in the last few Tour events where she has done very well. Corina got her seasoning playing in the local bar tournaments around San Antonio against some of the area's top men players. With a fast playing style, she dispatched Kim Pierce, Amanda Lampert and Nikki Smith before getting her first loss in the winner's bracket finals to Cristina in a close match, 7-5. Taking out Kim Pierce on the one loss side, this set up a rematch for the finals with Cristina.
With the finals being a double race to seven, Corina won the first set 7-3, as Cristina just could not find her pace after the long wait in the hot seat. Continuing on a roll, Corina won the second set, 7-4, and her first Tour victory.
Congratulations to Cristina on her second place finish. We will hear more from this young lady in the future.
