For the last year or so, Dennis Hatch walking into a pool room preparing for a Joss NE 9-Ball Tour stop meant that the rest of the field was playing for second place. Dennis might want to remind the guys at Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham, NY of that information.
Hatch was one of the thirty nine players competing for the $5120 in prize money, but an unusual thing happened right out of the gate. Hatch fell in his first match to Dave Fernandez, and that wasn't Hatch's only loss. Kevin Guimond added insult to injury by eliminating Hatch before the first day of the event was complete.
Meanwhile, the rest of the field was concentrating on winning a tournament. Chris Orme took the hot-seat with a convincing 9-1 win over Redgie Cutler.
Cutler made the trip to the one loss side and ran into Danny Hewitt. Hewitt had lost a Saturday match to Orme and was gunning for another shot at Orme. Hewitt would get that shot after a 9-6 win over Hewitt, sending Cutler home in third place.
The final match saw Orme jump out to an early 5-1 lead and hold off a mid-match charge from Hewitt for the 9-5 win.
The win was worth $1400 for Orme, while Hewitt settled for $1000 in second place prize money.
The Joss NE 9-Ball Tour will be at Main Street Billiards in Amsterdam, NY on February 20-21 for their next event. This event will be a $2000 added tour stop at this new addition to the tour.
