Hawaiian sensation Phoebe Choy has won the WPBA Amateur Nationals at Magoos in Tulsa, OK.
Choy went undefeated, with notable wins over Julia Gabriel, Lisa Marr, Leslie Anne Rogers and then Angel Paglia for the hot-seat. Paglia fell to Rogers on the one-loss side to set up rematch between Rogers and Choy in the finals. Leslie Anne Rogers still could not find an answer to Choy in the finals, and Choy cruised to the 9-3 win.
Choy commented after the event, "This was one tournament I really wanted to win. I had been looking forward to this one since January. There are some great players that have won this event, like Melissa Little and Jasmin from Austria."
When asked about her play this weekend, Choy said "I was shooting good. Especially my kicks and safeties. I don't really go into a tournament thinking I am going to win it. I just concentrate on each ball and each game, and hopefully it ends with a win."
Choy won $1600 along with paid entry in to the WPBA Nationals in November at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, OR. Rogers pocketed $1050 plus paid entry to the WPBA Nationals. Paglia and Gail Lave filled out the top four spots.
