Chance Chin picked up his second victory on the Central New York (CNY) 9-Ball Tour by coming from the one-loss side and defeating Geoff Montgomery twice in a true double elimination final. Chin won the tour's fifth stop in January. The $600-added eighth stop on the tour, held April 10-11, drew 36 entrants to Salt City Billiards in Syracuse, NY.
Chin opened his tournament bid with four victories against Ron Ince, Sr., Ray Hart, Rick Manzi and Danny Heidrich before running into Montgomery among the winners' side final four. Montgomery's 7-3 win in the first of their three matches left Montgomery to face Dwight Dixon in the battle for the hot seat. Dixon had sent Lyn Wechsler west 7-7. Montgomery gained the hot seat with a 7-4 win over Dixon and waited for what turned out to be Chin's return
Chin's first opponent on the one-loss side was Rich Riccardi, who'd defeated Joe Giancarelli 7-6 and J.B. Brotherton 7-5 to reach him. Waiting for Wechsler was Victor Conte, Jr., who'd defeated Danny Heidrich 8-4 and Jared Zimmerman 8-5. Conte and Chin squared off in the quarterfinals, following Chin's decisive 9-1 victory over Riccardi and Conte's 8-5 win over Wechsler. With one down and four to go on the one-loss side, Chin dropped Conte in fourth place 9-7, Dixon into third 9-6, and moved into the true double elimination final against Montgomery.
Chin had been defeated by three games – 7-4 - in his first meeting against Montgomery and opened the two final matches by returning the three-game victory favor 9-6. He doubled that winning margin with a 9-3 win in the second set to take home his second CNY tour victory.
