The SE Open 9-Ball Tour was in action this weekend at The On Cue Sports Bar in Greenville, NC with a field of 33 players competing for the $1000 in added money.
Local player Charlie Brinson took the winners side by story and won the hot-seat with a 9-7 win over Michael Fuller. Fuller took the trip to the one-loss side where he ran into a determined Tommy Kennedy. Kennedy had lost his first match of the event, but had been mowing them down on the one-loss side ever since.
Fuller would be another victim, with Kennedy scoring a 9-2 win to earn his spot in the finals. As hot as Kennedy had been playing to get to the finals, Brinson played even hotter in the finals. Kennedy found himself trailing 10-2 before he knew it. Kennedy has not won all of the titles in his career by sitting and letting someone run over him though. Kennedy dug down and won the next four games to get back to 10-6 before an empty break by Kennedy led to a 4-9 combo by Brinson for the tournament victory.
Brinson collected $750 for first, while Kennedy settled for $450 in second place prize money. Fuller and Robert Ray filled out the top four spots. Shelly Warren was the top finishing female and won the $50 bonus.
The SE Open Tour will be at Jewels Billiards in Gainesville Florida on June 5th - 6th for their next event.
